What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent extensions applied individually to your eyelashes. They are made of synthetic mink, wider at the bottom and tapered at the tip, just like a real eyelash. They are applied one eyelash to one natural eyelash, one at a time. They add length and fullness to natural lashes yet look completely real, not like strip lashes, tabs, or flares.

What do they look like and how do they feel?

Applied correctly, they look and feel completely real. Since the extension is a duplicate of a natural lash, they are lightweight and feel as if you are not wearing anything on your lashes. They add length and thickness to your natural lashes. As long as you continue to have your lashes re-filled, no one will be able to tell you are wearing extensions.

How long do they last?

The answer to this question largely depends on two factors:

How well you have taken care of the extensions. The most important thing to remember is to not get any water on the lashes for 48 hours after the procedure. Excessive touching, any oil based products, using an eyelash curler and frequent exposure to heat can all cause the adhesive bond to break down and the lashes to fall off.

The other factor that determines how long the extensions last is the natural growth cycle of your eyelashes. All hair grows in cycles, and at the end of its cycle, it sheds. You will shed eyelash extensions when the lash that it is attached to reaches the end of its cycle. As long as you continue to have your lashes re-filled, you could wear the extensions indefinitely. Re-fills are recommended every 2-3 weeks to fill in where new lashes have grown in and to replace lashes that have shed.

Will the extensions damage my natural lashes?

No. As long as they are applied correctly, the extensions won’t damage your natural lashes. If they are applied incorrectly, they can damage your natural lashes.

How long does it take to have the extensions applied?

For clients requesting a full set of lashes, plan for 2-2.5 hours for the initial appointment. This includes time for consultation and discussion, as well as before and after photos. Re-fills are generally scheduled for 1 hour.

What is the procedure like?

Having the eyelash extensions applied is comfortable and relaxing. You will lie on your back on a massage table, with your lower lashes covered by a collagen gel patch, while your lashes are applied one at a time. Many find it so relaxing that they fall asleep during the procedure.

What should I do to prepare to have my eyelash extensions applied?

When you arrive for your appointment, it’s very important that your eye area and lashes are clean and bare. Arriving with make-up on your lashes requires removal of the make-up. This takes time away from adding more extensions. Also, if you wear contact lenses, you should remove them and plan on wearing your glasses for the first 24 hours.
